Just Friends Reunion: Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart’s Festive Commercial Sparks Nostalgia
Happy Just Friendsgiving! As the holiday season approaches, Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart come together to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the 2005 romantic comedy ‘Just Friends’ with a surprise “self-funded” sequel.
In a heartwarming twist, the stars collaborated for an Aviation American Gin commercial, rekindling the on-screen magic 18 years after Roger Kumble directed their unforgettable romantic comedy. In the commercial, Reynolds and Smart step back into the shoes of Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino, finding themselves in a living room adorned with Christmas decorations.
The scene transitions to a green screen, revealing the actors as themselves shooting a commercial. A playful moment ensues when Smart realizes it’s not a “real Just Friends reunion.” Reynolds humorously quips, “Let’s not rush to judgment before all the facts are in. I mean, this is a self-funded sequel predicated on a loose interpretation of IP law so in effect — yes, it is an ad for my Aviation American Gin.”
The clip concludes with Reynolds wrapping up the ad and Smart playfully leaving the set swiftly. You can catch the heartwarming commercial.
Just Friends: A Timeless Christmas Comedy
While the 2005 film didn’t receive the sequel it might have warranted, ‘Just Friends’ has aged gracefully, standing out as one of the best Christmas comedies of its time. Despite mixed initial reactions, it has become a highly rewatchable gem in the landscape of romantic comedies.
‘Just Friends’ narrates the story of high school student Chris Brander, who confesses his feelings to his best friend, Jamie Palamino. However, Jamie wishes to maintain their relationship as friends. A decade later, Chris returns to his hometown, still harboring feelings for Jamie and attempting once more to win her heart.
Post-‘Just Friends,’ Amy Smart continued to shine in various films such as ‘Mirrors,’ ‘Crank,’ ’12 Dates of Christmas,’ and ‘Tyson’s Run.’ Ryan Reynolds, on the other hand, solidified his status as a sought-after actor with leading roles in ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Free Guy,’ among other successes.
In addition to Reynolds and Smart, the romantic comedy features a stellar cast including Anna Faris, Chris Klein, Julie Hagerty, Stephen Root, Christopher Marquette, and Fred Ewanuick.
